The relationship between dreams and reality has preoccupied people since ancient times. Dreams fascinate us, but at the same time they are alien to us and their interpretation is puzzling. At the turn of the century, psychoanalysis gave rise to a kind of science of dreams.

Dreams are a popular subject in all the arts, whether in literature, theatre, film or the visual arts. While dreams and reality are clearly separated from each other in everyday life - dreams tend to be associated with sleep, reality predominantly with being awake - these spheres can coincide in the arts. Artistic visual worlds can explore and visualise the relationship between dream and reality and thus encourage viewers to reflect.

The exhibition "Dream and Reality", curated by Dr. Marie-Luise Zielonka, shows works by Cindy Sherman, Louisa Clement, Wiebke Siem, Mischa Leinkauf, Thomas Demand, Kerstin Brätsch, Franz Ackermann, Corinne Wasmuht and Christian Jankowski. All of the selected works invite visitors to reflect on the relationship between dream and reality, conveyed through the different media, perspectives and questions posed by the artists.

On 25 October 2024, the "Dream and Reality" exhibition will be open to all art lovers from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A free guided tour takes place every 30 minutes. Due to the limited number of participants, please register for the guided tours in advance.
