LBBW has acquired a renowned international relations expert in order to enhance its consulting expertise in international business. Dr Ulrich A. Sante, most recently German ambassador to Argentina, will join the management of LBBW on August 1. In the newly created position of Vice Chairman, he will report directly to the member of the Board of Managing Directors responsible for capital markets and international business Dr Christian Ricken.
The export-focused German economy is facing significant challenges, especially in international business, as a result of the sustainable transformation and profound geopolitical changes. In order to competently advise and support its customers as they safeguard their interests in this situation, LBBW has brought on board an expert in international politics with decades of international experience: Dr Ulrich A. Sante has spent over 30 years in high-ranking positions in Germany’s diplomatic service.
“We are thrilled with this extraordinary enhancement of our international expertise. Dr Sante has profound knowledge of political as well as economic issues. With him, we gain an excellent advisor and a contact with a good national and international network for our customers and the management team,” says Christian Ricken. In addition to targeted advice for customers on fiscal policy, economic and strategic issues, especially with regard to sustainability, his duties will also include representing the bank to important international institutions. Alongside Latin America, his activities will focus on Asia, where LBBW has branches in Singapore, Seoul and Shanghai as well as six representative offices.
The doctor of law comes from a diplomatic family and was born in Canada. Ulrich Sante began his diplomatic career in 1989, during which he held posts all over the world. For example, the 65-year-old has worked at the embassies in Vilnius, Washington, and Madrid and at the Permanent Representations of the Federal Republic of Germany to the EU and later NATO in Brussels. He was appointed ambassador to Singapore in 2017 before taking charge of the Embassy in Buenos Aires in 2020.
